I admit that I stand tall on my personal stance for team Over . Plus, my dog really likes paper anything--and keeping it Over the kinda thwarts his attempts at toilet paper mutiny.

2010 High Resolution(s): @Twincere (That's me) Is Keeping It Simple

I really hate saying the R- word. Its difficult for me to make a list of resolutions because I feel that I am just setting myself up for failure. Let's make a resolution to not make resolutions! Ha! Bottom line: In the back of my mind I know what I need to do. We all do. 2009 was one heck of a year and I am desperate and anticipating for 2010 to be much better on so many levels, financially, personally, professionally. I will however, always count my blessings...because behind every gloomy, sodden cloud is a bit of sunshine that helps me make it through.

My personal weakness is finding the mental and physical stamina to stay motivated and invigorated in everything I do. I'll be 34 this Spring and honestly, running after 7 kids becomes utterly exhausting. Granted, living with chronic anemia and its unflattering side effects plays a role in that, but I know that I want so much more out of my life. Its going to be a good year, I can feel it in my nearly-middle-aged-bones.

Water on the brain
Drinking more water has been at the top of my resolution list for two years in a row. This is resolution that I've really worked hard to maintain, and this year will be no different.

Java Junkie
I will be ~~quitting~~ subtly reducing my expensive coffee habit and making it at home ~~as often as willpower shall mandate~~. It’ll be just as good (maybe better, ~~I pray~~ I hope) if I steam the milk.

A Stroke of Genius
I will handwrite and or bespeak a note or words of thanks for every kind gesture big and small, as much as I can. It's so important to let someone know that they are appreciated and valued.

Liar Liar, pants on fire
I am going to stop lying to myself. Especially about things like my shoe size, clothing, and gray hairs: “I’m an 8, so what? P.S. I’m really a 10/12 . Ugh, I hate myself.”

Time After Time
I have personally taken a vow of punctuality. I have chronic issues with it, and I know its super annoying. Hubs says I'd be late for my own funeral.

New Heights
I want to try new, daring adventurous things. That means not being a wimp and actually braving the roller coasters at Busch Gardens and King's Dominion, with my kids and hubby....laughing all the way--instead of crying.

Rock ’Em, Sock ’Em
I want to wear matching socks more often. That means painstakingly devising a fool proof plan that entails the proper sorting and matching of the mountains of socks that is produced weekly in this 9 member household.

Grow a Pair
I want to not kill everything I touch. I am going to search the web over and try to turn this black thumb of mine green, once and for all!

Heck, Yes
I want to end the nay-saying with the naughts.I will work on being more positive. I will be the semi- Yes Mom and Yes-Wife.

Say It Ain't So
I'm working on deep cleaning my potty mouth. I'm a native New Yorker, easier said than done.

Resident Night Owl
I will be more consistent (even though I may be too tired to wash the makeup from my face) to treat my skin with love and respect and the best moisturizer, because this getting older bit sucks, bad.

Beauty Awaits No One
I will be more committed to getting my beauty sleep this year, even though the Night Shift at the hospital beckons me.

Stretch it to the Limit
I will take a a few moments to stretch and strengthen my body every day. This is something I've taken for granted for far too long. I shall cherish what little physical flexibility I have and work on regaining it.

Charitable Influences
As a family, we will continue to make an impact. Pick a charity, pluck a heartstring. Spending time together last year as a family and volunteering at our local FoodBank was a grounding and humbling experience for all of us. It truely is a hearwarming experience and makes one appreciate what they have.

Just Talk It Out
There will still be no texting at our dinner table. Practicing and perfecting engaging conversations will give our family lots to talk about.

French Toil and Trouble
I'd like to seriously brush up on my French, which is currently, ehm, how you say, mad rusty. It wouldn't hurt the effort if my fabulous Hubs were to conveniently dangle the new Costes 2 fragrance as le carrot.

Ohm-ni-perfect
I will be looking for a little peace and quiet among the harrowing screams, lost shoes,e-mail messages, texts, calls, teacher conferences, and hardscrabble lunches that often consist of the toddlers left overs. I will seek out my ethereal inner chi to transport me away from “humdrum noise” so that I can take a moment to be alone with my ideas.

Dieting
~~I'm swearing off my favorite guilty pleasures: French fries and real butter.~~ Let me get back to this one.

Excercise
There will be more sex in 2010. Ugh, with my husband...not that we didn't do it a lot anyway. just sayin'

I want to express my deepest sympathies to a fellow blogger, Shellie, aka @Military_Mom ( Blog4Mom.com ) who lost her precious baby boy, last evening in a horrible drowning accident in the pool in the backyard of their new home. Little Bryson was only two years old. http://tinyurl.com/yag6vvj

As a mom, I could never imagine or understand the depth of the pain and heartwrenching agony from losing a child. Sadly enough to admit, I pray that I never have to have those feelings. No parent is ever prepared for such tragedy. When I read about this last night on twitter, my heart became so achey and heavy that I needed to trod upstairs and touch and love on all my kids. Of course, they were sleepy and didn't understand and were quite grumpy. I felt so consumed, and was feeling bad at scolding the boys earlier for making a mess, and maybe I was a little too tough on the girls about their chores....none of that really matters. What matters most is that we are a family and that we are together, and face it, LIFE is short.

We should be living in the moment, rather than always worrying about what's going to happen tomorrow, next week or even next month.I know that I myself am guilty of getting so wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of life that I find little time to enjoy the blessings that I have today.

The holidays are supposed to be about the Savior, and being with our loved ones, and creating and holding onto memories to cherish for a life time. The Face of Tragedy does not fit into that equation.

I don't know Shellie on a personal level, but my heart still aches for her and her family.

Please keep Shellie and her family in your deepest thoughts and prayers. I implore you to take the time out today to cherish your family, hold your children and significant other close, pick up the phone and make ammends with that long lost relative, forgive someone that needs your forgiveness, let bygones be bygones and live for today, in the moment--and hold onto that for as long as you possibly can.

My 3 year old nephew, Nick, really loves counting and solving problems with Thomas the Train and Scooby Doo on the V-Motion^™ Active Learning System. It is definately geared to his level. Set up of the system was easy . I did not expect Playstation 3 graphics, so I am satisfied with the quality in graphics. The quality did not suffer any more on my 42" LCD than a smaller tv as some others have complained about. Bottom line: if you are looking for high quality graphics comparable to other high profile gaming systems, look elsewhere.
The functionality is great--its ambidextrous, suitable for both right and left handed players. You have the option of joystick or motion capabilities with each V-Motion game. It's functionality is very much comparable to a wireless remote.
There is a vast amount of learning content which varies from shapes, letter, number and color identification, math, logic, etc. The games are broken up into 3 categories: 3-5, 4-6 and 6-8 years old. There is overlapping, by that I mean my nephew can play and enjoy the 4-6 age category despite being only 3 years old. It all depends on their educational level and with enough supervision and proper guidance your child will not be limited to a particular category. I advise that the first time your child plays a game you walk him through it. The best part of all is that all the smartridges are compatible with the vmotion. Getting Ready For Holiday (or Anytime) Guests

If you have a spare room, it’s likely become storage space, a playroom, or gift-wrap center, and may not be ready for guests. Whether you’re expecting friends or relatives, it’s a very nice gesture to make the room look like you prepared it just for them. It doesn’t take much. Take a look around, get rid of any clutter, make room in a drawer, and clear space in a closet. I've compiled a ✔ list (at the end of this post) for preparing to have guests in your home, and check out these items I’ve used to make our guests feel welcome.

Bed

For most of us, our guest room is a last thought when we’re putting together our home, so we use whatever odds and ends are available to make the bed. Offer your guests a bed with fresh, matching linens and other amenities such as a cozy comforter, a selection of pillows and a fuzzy throw.

Nightstand

A nightstand with drawers gives your guests extra storage and gives you a place to tuck away any stray items in the room. Can’t afford to purchase a nightstand? Use a side table from another room or make a small table by placing a small board on a pile of books and draping matching floor length fabric over it.

Lighting

Having a lamp on the nightstand is great, but you’ll make more space for books and other necessities with an easy-to-install sconce light for reading.

Clock

Your guests will appreciate knowing what time it is, and an alarm clock with an i-pod dock and a special ambient sound feature makes sleeping easier by blocking out unfamiliar noises in your home.

If you don’t have a spare room, then an air mattress in a room without too much traffic is a good alternative, and can be set up to be as welcoming as a guest bedroom.

Finding fault with everything you see

We all know people who just like to complain. It seems that no matter how good they have it, they're always spreading negative energy. Even the best, most painstaking listener can have trouble with someone who finds fault with everything around them. You can shine even in the worst situations if your character is strong. If you're starting to see the "dark side" too often and find yourself blaming your circumstances on other people, take another look. If you think a change of scenery will solve all your problems, think again. Change can be good. Moving on to new things can be an exciting chance to stretch yourself and break a rut. But it's important to start with yourself when you're finding things to improve. No matter where you live, work or play, the only constant is you. You can't escape yourself. Change on the outside will have no effect on your happiness or fulfillment unless you change on the inside, too.

I know that family time and family trips are important in a child's life. I remember almost all of the fun trips that my parents took me on and we have such a great bond because of the experiences we have had together. My husband and I try really hard to continue with that tradition. We have a blended family, as this is the second marriage for us both, and road trips are second nature in our family. They can often be tedious and long, but its what you make of it that will make it a memorable and fun experience.

We both have family based up North in New York, so it would be a dream to take all 7 kids (that's our 5 kids and 2 nephews that we care for) on an extended trip down South. Well, I mean further South than where we are right now ( we're in South Eastern Virginia; Virginia Beach to be exact) And while we love living by the beach, we'd love to explore the fabulous Southern Charm and mountainous terrain of Tennessee. Safety Alert: ZhuZhu Pets

If you are like a lot of parents,including me--- your kids may be playing with or absolutely vying for the hottest pet of the year - the Zhu Zhu Pet, and more likely, you may have one stored away for the holidays.

There is some concern about the safety of this popular "artificially intelligent" hamster. Good Guide.com, a consumer watchdog group, reviewed the toy and claims that “dangerous contaminants” were found on the nose and head of the hamster.

A recent development, they found a metal called antimony which "if ingested in high enough levels can lead to cancer, reproductive health, and other human health hazards," said Dara O'Rourke, co-founder of goodguide.com and an associate professor of environmental science at U.C.-Berkeley.

Good Guide said that the federal limit of antimony is 60 parts per million where Zhu Zhu pets had 93 parts per million in their fur and 103 in their nose.

They went on to state that the danger to children occurs if they touch their mouth after touching the Zhu Zhu Pet. As we all know, the likelihood of our kids putting their hands in their mouths is very likely...

Cepia (the toy manufacturer) CEO Russ Hornsby released a statement to CBS NEWS stating that the hamster toys are "absolutely safe and has passed the most rigorous testing in the toy industry for consumer health and safety.”

"We are disputing the findings of Good Guide, and we are 100 percent confident that Mr. Squiggles, and all other Zhu Zhu toys, are safe and compliant with all U.S. and European standards for consumer health and safety in toys."

No recall has been issued, but O'Rourke said "... if you're concerned about it then we recommend that you call the company or potentially return the product if you feel it's not safe enough for your kids."

How does it all work?

Stephen Gass: In general, if a recipe calls for mashing, smashing, ooshing, gooshing, shaking, coating, or stirring, then, with your help, the baby can participate in the process.

As to the messiness factor, we suggest a few tips in Mix & Mash: for example, if you're mashing/smashing an ingredient such as an avocado, potato, or banana, put it in a zip-top bag, seal the bag, and mash and goosh away! If you want to coat an ingredient with oil, herbs, or a crunchy coating such as wheat germ or crushed cereal, help your child to dump the ingredients into a container that has a tight-fitting lid, snap on the lid, and shake, shake, shake.

What can parents and children gain from cooking together in the kitchen?

Stephen Gass: In addition to being a rich, playful, interactive, and practical activity, cooking with your baby creates a powerful platform for exercising a broad range of skills and introducing an array of concepts, including:

• the language you use to describe the colors, textures, shapes, sizes, smells, and your process;
• the "baby science" of transforming an ingredient from, say, something solid to something soupy;
• the "baby math" involved when you "divide" one whole ingredient into pieces, count ingredients or steps, or describe amounts ("little pinch of cinnamon," "lots of rice kernels," "full," "empty," etc.);
• the motor skills used to shake a container, help to pour ingredients from one container to another, or mix, mash, or assist with a spoon;
• the social skills of turn taking;
• the logic skills of following a process.

What is your favorite recipe from the book?

Stephen Gass: I'm a foodie, so I don't really have a favorite ... I like them all. In particular, what I do like is that each recipe is simple, nutritious, uses fresh ingredients, and reflects the growing trend of feeding babies "real food." I also love the idea of using herbs and spices to make the food more interesting. Flavorful food helps to develop a broader palate early on. For example, our rice dish mixes rice, bits of banana, a little coconut milk or yogurt, and curry powder; the "guacamol-ee crunch" recipe (mashed avocado and crushed cereal) suggests adding a little chili and garlic powder -- even babies enjoy a good hors d'oeuvre!

How did the idea for Mix and Mash develop?

Stephen Gass: eebee's award-winning line of books, toys, DVDs, and TV programming are informed by a research-based play curriculum and the simple idea that babies learn through interacting with the people and objects in their environment. In our adventures, eebee and babies play with water, paper, light and shadows, laundry, pots and pans ... everyday items.

Taking the "adventures" into the kitchen was a natural extension of our hands-on approach. It also satisfies our goal of not only engaging the baby, but inspiring parents with practical and playful ideas.

About a year ago, as part of a parenting series on Parents TV, in which we demonstrate simple baby games and activities, we tried out a cooking activity: mashing bananas and yogurt together. The response was phenomenal, and Mix & Mash was born ... or should I say, "cooked up."

What about picky eaters? How do you think this book applies to them?

Stephen Gass: According to pediatricians, one way to defend against a baby fussy eater developing into a fussy eater throughout childhood is to avoid placating him/her with naturally satisfying salty and fatty foods. Start early with a healthy and varied diet. Try different fruits and vegetables. If your child says "no" once, try that food or taste again at a later date. Involve your baby in the process of eating; when they are ready for finger food, play a little! Creating a healthy relationship with food and eating can start VERY young and have lasting effects.

Mix & Mash is all about helping parents to help their babies to develop a strong, healthy, and positive relationship with food.

Explain the importance of exploration and development through food.

Stephen Gass: As the research on early childhood development says, a child's first few years of life are critical for laying the foundation for just about everything: language skills, motor skills, reasoning skills ... and even "nutritional intelligence," a natural, if not intuitive, awareness of and appreciation for positive, reasonable, and healthy eating habits.

Given the childhood obesity crisis in our country, it's so important that we do as much as we can to help parents and children get off to the best possible start in building strong nutritional skills. As we say around the Mix & Mash kitchen, it's time to "SQUEEZE THE MOMENT!"

Each recipe is designed to encourage playful interactions, as well as set the stage (and table) for rich language-skill building exchanges. For example, in the “Guacamol-ee Crunch” recipe, babies help to mash/mush/moosh fresh avocado and crushed cereal together in a sealed plastic bag which naturally leads to a “discussion” about colors, textures, and sounds.

Lotsa Belated Winners To Announce!

You never realize how much you've become ~~addicted~~ reliant on the vast attributes of the internet which includes surfing & shopping, emailing, Social Media, and keeping up with the latest and greatest.....anyway, I have my tween to thank for first sabotaging Hubby's 9 month old laptop (still looking for the receipt and wishing I bought the extended warranty right about now) and then she sabotaged my ancient desktop which is my lifeline, and therefore only viable connection to the internet. Desktop seems to be working okay for now (after days of tweeking & troubleshooting) , and I promise you I am banning MySpace for good. I was so miserable without a computer this past week, I even tried to tweet on my phone=complete and utter fail. I was unable to post my Thanksgiving specials and even Thanksgiving wishes to my readers. I really hope everyone had a nice holiday. ((hugs)) Let's make it all better now:

Several months ago, I stumbled upon a great company called Frecklebox, a website that specializes in personalized gifts for kids. Their products are so much fun, personalized for your favorite kids so that they have something that is unique and personalized only for them.
As a child, I longed for pretty personalized pencils, Lunch box, or a glittery keychain of my own. My name, Tanya, (I pronounce it Tonya) was pretty un-common, and there were some variations of the name but the spelling was different. These days, there are some spectacular and unique names for kids--and its quite nice to be able to shop and personalize a wide selection of cool kids stuff. Small children who are treading the waters of Alphabet Land --light up when they see their name. Its instant recognition and helps validate a sense of identity associated with their name.

Frecklebox is on a mission to educate and entertain. This web-based business offers truly unique, personalized gifts for children at affordable prices. The site makes it quick and easy to customize each item so it prominently features the name of the child who will receive the gift. The vast, entertaining selection of

personalized books, posters, growth charts, lunch boxes, journal books, coloring books, stickers, placemats, puzzles, folders and other personalized items, are designed to delight your children.

My 5 kids love their Frecklebox personalized folders and Lunchboxes that I had purchased for them over the summer. All of the items are durable, well constructed, colorful and fun. For the purpose of this review, I allowed the kids to chose a personalized " My Name Is" Hard-bound book for their 3 year-old half-brother, Harrison.

The kids were so excited when it arrived (delivery was super quick). They had almost as much fun reading it through themselves, as we had initially making it on the website. I love that Frecklebox has an interactive website that allows you to see each personalized page, customizing it as you wish before finalizing your purchase.

Quick Classics: Grilled Herb Chicken Breast

A Delicious, Quick and Easy Family Dinner!

GRILLED HERB CHICKEN BREASTS

8 frozen, skinless, boneless chicken breasts, thawed
1/2 bottle Italian, herb salad dressing
1 16oz. pkg. frozen, mixed vegetables

Marinate, cover and refrigerate chicken breasts in dressing for at least 2 hours or up to 48 hours. Preheat grill to medium high heat or set oven to broil. Remove chicken from marinade (discard leftover marinade) and grill or broil for about 6-7 minutes per side, or until chicken is cooked through and no longer pink inside. In the meantime, prepare frozen vegetables according to package directions. Serve chicken breasts atop bed of vegetables.

Serves 8.
